For a summary of Blue Moon's role in the RP, see Summary:Blue Moon.

Blue Moon is one of four nations that are present within the Advance Wars Role Play. Loosely based upon the Blue Moon present within the Advance Wars series, Blue Moon is a vast nation largely based on a number of former Soviet states, such as Russia, Estonia, and Ukraine. Currently in a state of limbo, the state is currently led by Joseph Pokryshkin, the leader of a coup to remove the former Tsarina-General, Procella.

General Country Information

Leadership

There is very little democracy present within the political system of Blue Moon. The leadership hierarchy is unmatched in the real world, with the Tsar / Tsarina being the ultimate leader of the nation, and opts to focus either on the socio-political side of matters (taking the title of Tsar(ina)-Consul), or concentrates upon the military side, (giving the title Tsar(ina)-General). The country's governance then splits, and is depicted below.

Policing

Policing is heavy handed within Blue Moon, though garners very little resistance from the populace due to it's normally fair actions. Those who break the law will be heavily punished, though those who remain on the correct side of the law very rarely have any issue with the system.

Gulags are utilised for prisoners. It is not known how many exist within the Motherland, nor are they typically referred to as gulags - an example is the Shozma Corrective Facility for Traitors to the Motherland, based in Alara Tomsk. Such facilities are named depending upon the type of prisoner they cater for, with facilities for political prisoners, prisoners of war, societal prisoners, and traitors, both native, and those who have acted against the Motherland for other nations.

Media

Much like former Soviet states, media is heavily controlled. Anything deemed negative or derogatory to the Motherland, or just plain not liked, will be filtered out of the media by the state. Cosmo News Network, the main news channel for Cosmo Land, is available to the elite within the government and military, and the populace often find ways of watching through the internet, though any releases to the channel are normally controlled strongly, to work in the Motherland's favour.

History of Blue Moon

Pre-RP

Recent History

Red Valley and the Demise of Boreas

The start of the RP signalled a change in leadership for Blue Moon, with Boreas taking office as Tsar-General, and Procella as his deputy, freshly promoted to the rank of General. Boreas' reign was far from problem free, and within weeks was involved in a hostage ordeal during the Red Valley Incident. He was later rescued, alongside his contemporaries, through a joint operation involving Procella and forces from Yellow Comet and Green Earth.

A few weeks later, and Boreas was the victim of a serious car accident, which resulted in his death, and a power vacuum within Blue Moon as Procella disappeared in mysterious circumstances. As a result of the lack of clear successor, the Board of Commanders was established, with Lorin and Petr among the members. Ultimately, Lorin was classified as the leader during this time, which proved pivotal for the motherland.

The First Dakota War

Soon after Boreas' passing, the First Dakota War broke out between Orange Star and Green Earth, and led to Blue Moon invading Ozark through the northern border. Yellow Comet came to Orange Star's aid, acting as a distraction to Blue Moon, and this led to peace being forged between Orange Star and Blue Moon, with a demilitarised zone being established in the border areas within Ozark and Alara Tomsk. Peace was also brokered with Yellow Comet, however as part of the treaty, the income from Khartasstia was diverted to Yellow Comet for a set amount of time, which has since lapsed. The establishment of the peace treaty between Yellow Comet and Blue Moon brought an end to their involvement in the First Dakota War.

Green Earth

A normally friendly relationship between Blue Moon and Green Earth, established during the reign of Viola as Field Marshal, was brought down by the abrupt changes in parliament the coalition experienced. As a result of a change from democracy to a monarchy, there was a mass migration of unhappy, and at-risk Earthians into Blue Moon, and while Procella initially welcomed an increase in population following the Macro Land conflict, it soon became apparent that there was a major issue to the south, and when the numbers of immigrants continued to increase the country took the drastic measure of closing the border. In a rapid degradation in relations, border patrols were sent to the area, and the actions of some rogue forces sparked conflict between the two nations. Following the initial skirmish between two small forces, a full retreat was ordered by Blue Moon's CO-in-charge, Anton, who then injured himself, resulting in him being withdrawn from action. Joseph was then sent, with reinforcements, to continue the operation with Comrade, and the second battle is currently ongoing.

The next year came with its tricks then. The war with rogue corporation SMART and its host country Grey Meteor happened, Second Dakota War occurred and resulted in a split island for the parties involved. Old faces left and new ones came, some trustable and some moles to first SMART then Macro Land counterparts of the nations. First SMART attacked large swaths of land on all great powers until they were repelled and pushed back to Grey Meteor islands, where the enigmatic leader Vogel was slain and SMART put to rest. But no, later that year Macro Land nations decided to take control of their distant cousins through war, but ultimately failed. Blue Moon had several of its cities razed on the eastern coast and peace couldn't return until middle of the following year when Malyshev was put to rest by three bullets courtesy of vengeful Procella, and Macro Land Blue Moon withdrew from Cosmo Land.

Geography

Situated to the centre of Cosmo Land, Blue Moon covers two Time Zones: Cosmo Median Time and East Moonian Time.

Rostov

Situated at the very top of Blue Moon territory, Rostov is easily the coldest place on Cosmo Land: A good sixty percent of Rostov is uninhabitable due to the permafrost that permeates the eastern peninsula. In addition, north of the peninsula is nigh-uncrossable frozen Sea Ice, extending to the borders of Orange Star. Said ice is only crossable with the help of technology such as Orange Star's Icebreaker Hulls. As such, most cities and military emplacements are on the western side of the territory. The regional capital of Rostov is Kansk; there is also a port city by the name of Belomorsk located northeast of it. To the north of these cities is Severny Isle, which is considered part of Rostov.

Primorsky Archipelago

Slightly off the eastern coasts of Rostov and Kharkasstia, the Primorsky Archipelago is not so much a landmass as it is a set of three islands in the control of Blue Moon. From top to bottom, they are Sliven Isle, Rapla Isle, and Jelgava Isle. While Rapla Isle lacks in production (both economic and military; indeed, it has very little except a pillbox so the soldiers stationed there could see what one looked like), the other two more than make up for their sister island's deficiency: Sliven Isle is home to the regional capital Svilengrad and, more importantly, the main Hennelzen Weapons Incorporated facility. On the economic side, Jelgava Isle is home to the city of Nikhodka, where a thriving crab and tuna fishing trade produces lucrative money for the state and the men who throw themselves into Nature's unforgiving, watery embrace.

Alara Tomsk

The Alara Tomsk is the Blue Moon side of the mountain range separating Orange Star from Blue Moon. As such, it has a rather unfortunate habit of being the prime field of battle when the two countries enter a "disagreement". The most recent conflict between the two ended in Orange Star taking the land during the 2011 OS/BM Battle. The capital of the Tomsk is Berezniki; it tends to suffer when said wars happen (In one memorable case having Topol missiles launched at it). The Tomsk also holds the city of Baltiysk. Off the Orange Star border, the Alara Tomsk is known for its beautiful Novosibirsk forest, where the birch trees grow in abundant numbers.

Roistrona

Arguably the most important province of Blue Moon, Roistrona is home to the national capital of Prox, stationed in the heart of the heartland. Many of Blue Moon's landmarks are here, including the Kutzukov Arch which stands tall over the gates, and the Svetznoyz Basilica, often called the marvel of Blue Moon construction. In the center of the city stands a monument to the first Tsar-General of Blue Moon, Dmitry Kalashnikov. Of course, the Blue Moon Military High Command is also stationed here. The current head of Blue Moon's land forces, Julia Osborne, was born in Prox. Outside of the capital, there is also a national park, named the Arkhangelsk National Wildlife Reserve. Here, the rolling Caucas Hills host a smattering of creatures, from the grazing of the caribou as they munch on the grasslands to the mighty bears fishing with their rigid claws in the streams of Lake Altai.

Kharkasstia

Kharkasstia is where the majority of Blue Moon's eastern coast is located. In the Macro Land conflict, many cities on the coast were razed thanks to the invading country's Topol Missiles. Even before that, the province has had a rocky history, being taken over by Yellow Comet during the First Dakota War, causing them to gain all the benefits without actually lifting any fingers for it. The province is also home to the Kharkasstia National Zoo, where the populace can see animals such as the Rostovian Tiger and the Primorsky Albatross. The regional capital of Kharkasstia is Medias.

Tatarskaya

An incredibly thin strip of land, Tatarskaya separates Blue Moon territory from Green Earth; the province borders both Avalon and Le Territoire d'Or. It is easily the most temperate land owned by Blue Moon, but when Green Earth is in peril, Tatarskaya is too, more often than not. When unhappy Green Earth citizens, angered at the change in democracy, began to flee from Avalon, they fled into Tatarskaya. The regional capital of Haskovo is flanked by two port cities (Tatarskaya is the only territory of Blue Moon to have both an east and west coast): Tukchi in the east and Loksa in the west.

Kristallichy Island

Kristallichy Island was originally owned by the SMART Corporation until their demise, when Blue Moon took the island and changed the island name from Europa to its current name. There are three major cities placed on the island; however, at least one is completely destroyed thanks to a failed nuclear test, taking with it most of the eastern half of Kristallichy. Coincidentally, the eastern half of Kristallichy was known for high concentrations of Radon within the rocks. The city in question is Tiksi; other cities on Kristallichy include Goryanagrad (named after the former Tsarina-General, Procella), and Irutsk. The northwestern section of Kristallichy is referred to as the Crystal Coast; it is here that Madison Kelton and Vasco Rodrigues of Orange Star won a battle against Sigrid Hennelzen and Alexei Svyatopolk to claim the island in the Orange Star-Blue Moon conflicts.
