History
As an only child, growing up, Ryouta never had much parental support, in any form. They expected the best of him, but he never quite could live up to their expectations, and he figures that is the only reason they didn't appear to love him. When bullies began to target him, he had no desire to fight back, so instead he allowed it to happen, and trudged through life on his own. What little amount of friendship he did have with a few others never became close, as on numerous occasions he declined to talk about how he felt in favor of listening to others do the same, all while keeping a smile on his face. In a sense, this was his own decision, but it could be said that the distance from his parents led him to be just as distant from others.
Although he wasn't a natural or prodigy in school, he still worked hard and received high marks in turn, managing to keep an optimistic attitude on life. However, when Ryouta chose music over medicine or law, his parents were highly disappointed. Even though the home's climate wasn't much different from before, he still felt like he let them down, so he moved out to chase his dream of forming a rock band, and to be just like his favorite band.
While holding a job, pursuing vocal training became a priority, and he spent much of his free time practicing as well as taking lessons from a successful rock vocalist, who had achieved the same position he wanted. Once a year or more had passed, Ryouta joined a visual-kei band, who seemed content with his level of skill. This is also where he started using his nickname. They practiced on their own for a year, playing covers of preexisting music, and spent the following year searching for places to perform.
Shortly before they played their third gig, Ryouta was involved in a car accident that nearly killed him, and according to the doctors who treated him, he shouldn't have survived at all. It was that, along with his rapid recovery as compared to similar victims, that led the doctors to believe he had CO powers.
Once told this, Ryouta changed his mind about what he wanted to do with his life, and underwent military training for a year. Although he had stopped talking with his parents some time before, he contacted them again after he had completed training, and told them about the accident and that he was working to become a CO because he felt he should make use of the powers he had. They were very pleased that he was going to become just as honorable as a doctor or lawyer, even if a commander in the military wasn't what they had originally planned. He is currently patching things up with them.
Personality
Ryouta is mostly outgoing, but can be nervous with new people. He is very good-natured and can be expected to be nice to almost anyone. Personal conflict is the absolute last thing he wants, so he will strive hard to at least get along, even when someone doesn't like him. Because his upbringing was so restrained, he keeps distance between himself and other people, emotionally, and hides his own feelings behind a smile and attempted humor. This can happen with his opinions as well, but not always, especially when the issue has serious consequences.
Ryouta is obsessed with becoming like his idol, Reita, the bassist for his favorite band, The GazettE. This is why he wears a noseband and why his hair is blond.
Relationships
Hanako was essentially Ryouta's best friend in Yellow Comet, although not on the same level as other people he knows outside the military. She was nice to him, and he felt relatively comfortable talking to her. Ken, on the other hand, Ryouta still feels a need to treat with the utmost respect, although he has given up trying to sound formal around the Emperor all the time.

- Ryouta is based on Reita, the bassist from Japanese band The GazettE (compare).
- Coincidentally, Ryouta's name is one syllable away from Andy's Japanese name, Ryou.
