Specialist Manufacturing And Research Technologies (usually abbreviated to SMART) was a company that manufactured, among other things, weapons. They had their own private army and even owned a country, Grey Meteor. While they existed purely for profit, they owned literally everything in Grey Meteor, dispensing everything to its populace equally, although they were somewhat stingy. As such, their regime could be seen as state capitalism.

Invasion

SMART's main goal was profit and ownership of the globe, starting with Cosmo Land. They used a variety of techniques to attain such a goal.

Their major installations were connected by a series of underground tunnels. Some of them have caved in, but most are still in tact but disused.

Orange Star

In Orange Star, they attempted to break the monopoly that Aries Armscorp had on the area by attempting to assassinate Zephyr and supplying weapons to local police forces. The reason for the assassination was to make Orange Star question how effective Aries were, as well as spread further fear of Green Earth. The assassination was carried out by Natuski Saito, while the business deals were was overseen by their CO Aaron.

Blue Moon

During the early part of the initial conflict, SMART used their private army to invade Primorsky. However, their admiral Alyosha was hesitant to do so and decided not to continue with the attack.

While that was going on, they had established a factory to create weapons to sell to Orange Star, overseen by Silicon. After a skirmish against Procella, they took her hostage and tortured her. Meanwhile, Plamya (a double agent within Blue Moon) had been leaking technology and intel from Blue Moon to SMART. The two were overseen by CO Reagan.

Green Earth

Coalition President Dieter Kalt hired SMART as his personal guard, having little faith in the CDF for his own protection. The mercenary forces were lead by Abigail. The two sides declared war when Kalt's intention to destroy the CDF was revealed.

They later on decided to lay siege to Roma Grande, Viola's hometown and capital of Italicolo. These forces were lead by CO Maurice.

Yellow Comet

CO Akemi became a notorious crime lord within Ikoya, bolstering her Yakuza forces with SMART troops and weaponary. A laboratory she was working with was overseen by Reagan and her aide, Hyperion.

Later, they also attempted an attack on Ikoya via a series of tunnels, overlooked by Akane.

Downfall

After their initial plans were thwarted, Viola called the leaders of the nations of Cosmo Land together to try and work out a way to eliminate SMART once and for all. However, before the plan could be carried out, SMART carried out phase two of their plans. When Roma Grande's siege was broken, she captured and interrogated Maurice into giving the coordinates of their HQ, a chain of islands called Grey Meteor. Units were sent to Grey Meteor from all four other nations of Cosmo Land and one-by-one, SMART's influence was reduced.
